Kramer-Pollnow Award
The Kramer-Pollnow Award recognises outstanding scientific contributions to ADHD research and is presented every two years by the World Federation of ADHD. Named in honour of Franz Kramer and Hans Pollnow, whose pioneering work laid important foundations for today's understanding of ADHD, the award celebrates excellence in basic, translational and clinical research. The next award will be presented at the 11th World Congress on ADHD in Cape Town in 2027.
Kramer-Pollnow Award 2027
Applications for the Kramer-Pollnow Award 2027 are welcomed from researchers whose work advances the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of ADHD. Eligible submissions include basic research (e.g. genetics and imaging), translational research and clinically focused research. Innovative approaches, such as the integration of digital health applications into multimodal ADHD treatment, are also encouraged.
The award is intended primarily for researchers in the early to middle stages of their careers across psychiatry, psychology and related disciplines. Early career researchers are defined as those who defended their first PhD no more than seven years ago and have demonstrated independent research activity. Mid-career researchers are those who defended their first PhD more than seven but no more than nineteen years ago.
The 2027 Kramer-Pollnow Award is endowed with €6,000 and is sponsored by MEDICE Arzneimittel Pütter GmbH & Co. KG (Iserlohn, Germany).
The Story Behind the Name
The name of the award is based on the publication of Franz Kramer (1878-1967) and Hans Pollnow (1902-1943) from 1932: “Über eine hyperkinetische Erkrankung im Kindesalter” (“A hyperkinetic disorder in childhood”) which resembled behaviorally today´s ADHD.
Franz Kramer and Hans Pollnow were physicians and neuropsychiatrists who worked at Charité University Hospital in Berlin during the 1930s. As Jews, both were forced to flee Nazi Germany. Kramer continued his medical career in the Netherlands, where he died in 1967. Pollnow was deported and murdered in the Mauthausen concentration camp in 1943.
Application Requirements
To apply for the Kramer-Pollnow Award 2027, applicants are asked to submit:
- two to three original publications published or accepted for publication ("in press") between 2025 and 2027 in peer-reviewed journals
- a current curriculum vitae
- a list of previous publications and
- a statement describing the applicant's individual contribution to the submitted publications.
